The Toronto Choral Society presents
The Music of The Beatles
On September 7, 1964, The Beatles performed for the first time in the city of Toronto, at the Maple Leaf Gardens. More than 50 years later, their music continues to resonate in our streets, our ears, and our hearts. The Toronto Choral Society will commemorate this visit presenting some of the most magical Beatles songs carefully arranged for a choir of 150 voices, accompanied by local band "The Lonely Hearts" and William O'Meara at the piano, under the artistic direction and conduction of Geoffrey Butler.
The Toronto Choral Society was founded in 1845, to foster a positive musical environment in which members can learn and develop both musical ability and choral repertoire. In addition, TCS aims to be an integral part of the community of Toronto, presenting important works from the traditional choral repertoire, exploring the music of the many cultures that make up our community, and making an active contribution to the life of the city by participating in community events.
The Gift of Song, our annual benefit concert in support of Street Haven Women's Choir, will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church (Danforth Ave. at Gough Ave.) on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 3:00p.m.
Our usual venue, St. Paul's Basilica, wasn't available this year and we're grateful to Holy Name for donating this space, and to TCS member Grace Chau for facilitating the arrangement. Toronto Choral Society, the TCS Children's Choir and Street Haven Women's Choir will all be performing. As always, admission will be free and donations to support the Street Haven choir will be accepted at the door.
Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is the most sublime seasonal music. This year The Toronto Choral Society will present an evening that will thrill the audience and choir alike. Founded in 1845, The Toronto Choral Society is one of the oldest established choirs in the country. We will kick off the season with a beautiful concert of the finest excerpts from Bach’s masterpiece and set the tone for a joyous winter holiday.
