The TCS Choir offers a friendly, supportive atmosphere in which committed and enthusiastic choristers can expand their musical repertoire and become better singers. Membership is open to anyone in the Greater Toronto Area who wants to sing, is interested in learning, is able to attend rehearsals regularly and is willing to be an active participant in choir events. There are no auditions, but some previous choral experience is expected.
Becoming a Member
New members are accepted in September and January, provided space is available. Currently the choir is welcoming new tenors and basses. Prospective bass and tenor members are invited to contact TCS by e-mail (email@example.com) or telephone (416-410-3509) to learn more about how to join the choir.
Presently the soprano and alto sections are filled to capacity. Sopranos and altos who wish to join should add their name to the waiting list. If you add your name to the list you will be contacted by a member of the TCS board of directors when spaces become available.
Choir members pay annual fees that contribute to paying expenses such as venue rental, payment of artistic staff, music, and administrative costs. Membership fees are $250 per year or $150 per fall or spring season. Fees may be paid in person by cash or cheque.
If a chorister withdraws from the choir after paying the season/term registration fee, refunds will be granted, upon request, as follows:
Before the fourth rehearsal of the season, 100% of any paid registration (minus a $20 administration fee)
Between the start of the fourth rehearsal and the end of the sixth week of the season, 50% of any paid registration
After the sixth week of the season, 0% of any paid registration
Fees are subject to revision by the Board of Directors, as required.
The TCS rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Eastminster United Church , 310 Danforth Avenue (one block west of Chester subway station).
Sectional rehearsals offer additional practice. They are held for an hour before the regular rehearsal, on alternate weeks for male and female voices.
The TCS presents at least two major ticketed concerts every year, usually in December and May. Additional concerts may be offered during the year, either independently or in collaboration with another group. The choir also performs annually at a benefit concert for Street Haven Women’s Choir and at other special community events.
Membership in Other TCS Choirs
